I’ve been reading some books which discuss issues related to death. One is Necro Citizenship and the other Dead Women Talking. Both deal with history and literary analysis.
Can anyone recommend a novel or short story where the protagonist narrates the events that lead to his or her own death, and does so, not necessarily to gain justice posthumously, but simply for catharsis?
The novel The Book Thief by Markus Zusak comes close to what I’m looking for but Death, not the main character, narrates the events. Beloved by Toni Morrison also falls short.
I am aware that some works by Poe deal with this subject.

I haven't read this book so don't know if it's what you're looking for, but The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is the only title that came to mind. It's about a young girl who is murdered and tells the story about it.

Thanks for the recommendation. The Lovely Bones is on Bard. It seems there's also a screen adaptation.
The murder victim or main character is the narrator, therefore this novel matches what I'm looking for.
